And I'm really not impressed with the Silverfast price tag! Following the instructions above still gives me a "The third-party INF does not contain digital signature information" message and does not work. Example: I created a folder called "Nikon Files" and placed it inside inside the "NKScan4" folder located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Nikon\NkScan4 - Thus the folder now looks like this... I did not find any hints, unlike for Vista x64, on the Internet.
Any ideas for getting the computer to recognize the scanner under Nikon Scan? I instaled last VueScan version too to see if it works with my Nikon CoolScan 8000ED scanner but when VueScan software is opened I get information: "No scanner was found connected When I did that the drivers were installed and I got a pop-up message saying that my LS-30 was installed and ready to go. The driver that you wrote works perfectly!
So much for theory.The scanner was correctly detected, but refused to work: "The device cannot start. (Code 10)". Thanks to him and the others participating in this dialogue, my Nikon Coolscan IV ED/Nikon Scan 4 is working with my Windows 7 64 bit OS. If you have success, you will be done at this point. I even booted into Ubuntu - same problem. Nikon Coolscan 5000 Software Imoprtand remark for all of those who could not make the windows see yours scanners.inf and NKScnUSD.dll take and copy any inf. One minor thing that might confuse some.
I uninstalled Nikon Scan and the driver, reboot and installed it again, it didn't fix the problem. Plenty of people have done it, so I expected smooth sailing. This proves even more frustrating, since I have followed exactly the proceedure outlined in that link (which is essentially the same proceedure originally described by Steel Chn and modified to include Nikon Super Coolscan 4000 Ed Driver I'm grateful for have two Nikon CoolScan 5000Ed and you gave long life to them.

Device Manager now shows 'Firewire scanner' installed and Properties declares the device is working properly. Now I have to copy over all my various *.ini files for all my film types, and the associated color target data, and see if all of that works correctly. Instructions were also real clear. I have loaded this software on my Windows Vista 32 bit laptop and the scanner driver loaded without a problem.
