Thanks for posting this...I like the batch scan mode of the Nikon software and didn't want to have to switch to other alternatives. Also PC's do have Firewire connections as well. Download this from the Nikon website. Afterwards your scanner should be listed under its correct name like "Nikon SUPER COOLSCAN 8000 ED".

You guys should be paid by Nikon for doing them a service. I really thought my scanner was useless after Nikon orphaned it by refusing to write a 64-bit driver. On Linux, you need to set up libusb device protections. Nikon sold this scanner in some countries as the LS-50. I don't understand why Windows Vista 64 bit has a Programs(x86) section for working with 32-bit software and drivers but the drivers do not work with this OS? Nikon Coolscan 5000 Software The solution is installing Nikon Scan 4 on 32-bit OS and then just copy the software. Now... After booting Windows 8 that way choose Search from the Windows 8 menu, enter "devmgmt.msc" and click on the App found to get to the Device Manager.

Yes, Vista 32-bit. 2- Download the scanners.zip here - scanners.zip 3- Extract and save the scanners.inf file to a location or folder of your choosing... Turn on the scanner and "attach" it to the VPC - the USB menu in VPC top frame shows a list of available USB devices.I solved it 3 days ago and As soon as I found out how to disable the Distributor verification in Win7 (by rebooting while hitting F8, and choose the relevant option) your procedure worked perfectly.
